Blog 13: Stories of Billy Boy

For some reason Billy Boy had the feeling that he had higher rights than the rest of us. He and Anna had a relationship similar to mine and Darrell’s. But, the boys were forbidden to hit the girls.

(Anna’s toast)

One day, Anna was making toast and she began mixing melted butter with apple butter. She was, also, talking on the kitchen phone. I was watching from the living room. When Anna turned around to see the toast, she caught Bill stealing a piece. Without any hesitation, she THREW the butter right onto his face. I was laughing hysterically. But, Anna dropped the phone and ran into the den with Billy following her. I did not see what happened next, but I sure told my parents when they came home and that was not very fun for Bill.

(Lime Green Kool-Aid)

Another time, Anna had a friend coming over to borrow some dish soap. It was green Palmolive. She placed it on the dining room table, then made a pitcher of lime green Kool-Aid. She placed it directly beside the glass of Palmolive. Anna came into the living room with me and sat on the couch. In walks Billy Boy from his room. (You can guess what happened next!) Billy picked up the glass and started drinking it. He took a BIG gulp. His reaction was priceless. Anna never admitted if she did it deliberately or not, but I have my own opinion….. She planned it!

(The Peeping Tom)

One night, one or both girls were in the bathroom getting ready for bed. When they did, both came running out screaming that someone just whistled through the window at them. The dogs WERE barking, so we called the police. It did not take long for the police to arrive with a sniffing dog.

They confirmed that the dog picked up a scent from the window to the alley. But, no one was found. After the police left, Anna, Darrell, and I were afraid to stay in our bedrooms, so we went to our parents bed. There was a small hallway between my parents room and the den. I laid closest to the window looking out through the sashes. Anna was in the middle and Darrell was closest to the hall.

I stared hard outside the window while the other two talked. All of a sudden, Anna started screaming. Darrell joined in harmony. ME? I just started screaming because they were screaming. But, I turned around and saw a shadow in the hallway. They had something in their hand and had it lifted over there head. We screamed even louder.

Out of nowhere, Billy walked into the room “combing his hair!” Then he calmly said, “What is wrong with y’all?” I started crying, Anna began yelling and I think Darrell might have wet his pants! He got in sooo much trouble when my mom got home.

(The Bet)

I have to admit that I was a tattle tell. My parents knew they could leave us because when they got home, I would be pointing at person/people who did something wrong. I think I proved this when telling the stories about Darrell and me.

One day, Dad, Billy and I were in the den. Dad’s chair was in the middle of the room and you had to pass it to go to the bathroom from the couch. I bet Billy Boy that I could get him in trouble. He did not believe me. So, I got up and went into the kitchen and came back in the den passing Bill. I deliberately tripped myself a little and turned to Billy and said, “Dad, Billy is trying to trip me!” My dad responded, “Son, you better leave him alone!”

I waited a couple of minutes and got up to go to the restroom. When I passed Billy, I tripped myself a little harder. I yelled, “Bill quit it!!” My dad warned him again. I stayed in the restroom long enough and came back by Bill again. This time I tripped myself and fell to the floor fake crying. I yelled to dad that Billy did it again and this time it hurt! My dad got up, grabbed his belt and told Bill to go to his room! “VICTORY!!!”

(Bill’s friend Choya)

I did not win in every case. Bill’s friend, Choya came through the front door and I was playing the piano. I STUPIDLY made a smart remark to him as he passed me. (Wrong Idea) Choya grabbed me, turned me upside down and hooked my belt buckle on the door and left me hanging there. I said, “You think your smart don’t ya?” I reached up and simply unbuckled my belt buckle. (Not So Smart Of Me) I came straight down on my head …….BASH!!!! I had a knot on my head for two weeks.

( one story with dad)

When we were still at an age to need a babysitter, Mom would go to work at 3pm and dad would sleep until 6pm and then would go to work. We had an old style refrigerator that was empty in the kitchen. Anna, Darrell, and I decided to play on the ice box. Anna got on top, Darrell got inside on a shelf, and I swung on the door like it was a bus. Anna driving, Darrell in a seat, and me jumping on to catch the bus.

It got too heavy and fell over. Anna and I jumped off, but the door slammed shut with Darrell still inside. The sound of the crash and the screaming woke my dad. He came running into the kitchen and all of us got the ice box upright and got Darrell out. My dad was furious, but, he got even more furious when he realized that he was standing in front of the babysitters in his underwear! Wow, we got a horrible whipping for that stunt!!

(Hoping the best for those involved in Hurricane Harvey and the one about to hit Florida. I pray for you all and I hope these stories got your mind off these disasters for a moment.)  Sincerely, Millard
